“The love of wilderness is more than a hunger for what is always beyond reach; it is also an expression of loyalty to the earth, the earth which bore us and sustains us, the only paradise we shall ever know, the only paradise we ever need, if only we had the eyes to see.”
― Edward Abbey (1927 - 1989)
Here is a collection of my latest mountain photos. Be sure to check my blog to read more about my recent adventures in the mountains!
The San Juan Mountains, in southwest Colorado, are the most rugged and extensive mountainous region in the state - an ocean of mountains that extends as far as the eye can see. Some notable San Juan towns are Telluride and Ouray on the northern side, Silverton in the middle, and Durango to the south...
Photos from all the other mountain ranges of Colorado, including the Elk Mountains, Sangre de Cristos, Gore Range, Front Range and Indian Peaks, Sawatch Range, Flattops, Black Canyon, and more.
A collection of photos from some of the most rugged and famous mountain ranges in the United States, including the Wasatch Range in Utah, the Tetons and Wind River Range in Wyoming, Glacier National Park in Montana, and the Sawtooth Range in Idaho.
Including Alpine photos from Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Germany, and France, as well as other locations in Europe such as Croatia, Montenegro, and Turkey.
During the summer of 2009, I devoted six weeks to photographing the amazing mountains and fjords of Norway. I traveled more than 8500 km (5300 miles), from the capital city of Oslo in the south, as far north as the Lofoten Islands and Tromsø, above the Arctic Circle. In between I saw some of the most unique and impressive peaks in the world, often with some very dynamic weather conditions...
The longest mountain range in the world, the Andes stretch 7,000 km (4,300 mi) through a variety of South American environments, from the glaciated equitorial high peaks of the Peruvian Cordilleras, through the barren volcanoes of the Atacama desert, the lush temperate rainforests of the Chile and Argentina's Lakes Districts, to the windswept southern towers of Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego...
From October to December 2008, I spent 7 weeks in New Zealand, mostly tramping (hiking) in the mountains of the South Island during their spring season. I traveled from town to town, with no fixed itinerary, staying for about a week at a time in each place to explore the nearby mountains. The main places I based my hikes from were Mount Cook Village, Queenstown, Fox Glacier, Arthur's Pass, Wanaka, and Te Anau...
A somewhat random assortment of photos from the great state of California, including the mighty Sierra Nevada range, Death Valley National Park, Catalina Island, and the Anza Borrego Desert.
These black and white mountain photos make elegant prints that give a different feel to a room than my color prints do. One nice advantage of the black & white prints is that they still look good even under very dim lighting conditions, due to their contrasty monochrome tones.
Photos from the incomparable deserts and canyons of Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and California.
Backcountry skiing and snowboarding photos from Colorado, Wyoming, Switzerland, Argentina, and more.
The galleries above showcase selected collections of my favorite mountain photos, but these are just a portion of the photos you can find on this website. Many more photos can be found grouped by subject in the search archives.
