Located primarily in southeastern California and southern Nevada, the Mojave Desert is the driest desert in North America. Characterized by expansive sloped basins between rugged faulted mountain ranges, most of the valleys are internally drained, meaning that any precipitation that does fall does not flow out to the ocean. Joshua trees are native only to the Mojave and indicate the boundaries of the region.
