Southern Utah is blessed with arguably the most unique and spectacular desert and canyon landscapes in the world, and despite the fact that the majority of Utahns support protecting these incomparable natural treasures, Utah's Republican lawmakers are paradoxically among the most hostile against [their own] public lands in the entire country. Thus, vast regions of southern Utah face a myriad of threats including mining, drilling, chaining of forests for cattle range, and increased off-road vehicle access through wilderness quality areas.
