Weminuche Wilderness Trek
During the second of week of this August 2010, Claudia and I went backpacking for 7 days in the Weminuche Wilderness, duplicating the same route that I did solo back in September 2007.
We had all kinds of crazy weather during the trek, ranging from torrential monsoons to perfect bluebird days. But mostly monsoons, even during the night and mornings on some days. The turbulent weather provided some spectacular light shows during sunrises and sunset, which I was happy to capture with my camera.

Sunset alpenglow on Knife Point, a rugged spire in the Needle Mountains. In 2008 I hiked up to the top of this peak to photograph neighboring Sunlight Peak at sunrise.

Here comes Claudia!

Clouds and shadows float by the Grenadier Range, in the heart of the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. The main peaks of the range are Arrow and Vestal Peaks.

A fiery sunrise relfected in a remote lake near the Grenadier Range, deep in the mountains of the Weminuche Wilderness.

Wildflowers along Vestal Creek, under the soft light of dusk, with the Trinity Peaks as a backdrop.

Sunrise alpenglow light on Storm King Peak (13,752 ft.). This was the third time I've been on the summit of this particular peak to photograph this vantage point, but the first time for sunrise. See another one of my photos of Storm King from 2004 here.
