Here is a collection (in chronological order) of my favorite photos taken during the 2019/20 winter here in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado.
From December through March, this was one of the best backcountry splitboarding seasons in memory here in the San Juans. Though the snowfall amounts were about average, what was remarkable was the unusually stable snowpack. Taking advantage of the generally lower-than-normal avalanche danger, I racked up 40 days on the splitboard through March! (Despite being sidelined with a nasty flu for two weeks in January). Unfortunately by the end of March with the pandemic situation I've dialed it way back and haven't been riding in April. Hopefully once the snowpack consolidates later this spring I will be able to get back out for some low risk descents.
Snowboarding/splitboarding was certainly my main motivation this winter so my photographic endeavors took a back seat for a while, but I still managed to snap a few decent photos every once in while, even if many were just from my front porch!
