Dolores Canyon Sunset
Dolores Canyon, Colorado | 2021
Brilliant sunset light streams under the clouds as the Dolores River streams below.
The Dolores River flows southwest from its headwaters at Lizard Head Pass in the San Juan Mountains near Telluride, but as it exits the mountains it takes a sharp turn to the north, flowing through scenic but relatively unknown canyon country along the western border of Colorado. One particularly magnificent stretch of this river canyon is encompassed by the Dolores River Canyon Wilderness Study Area, established in 1980 by the Bureau of Land Managment (BLM). With redrock sandstone cliffs rising over 1,000 feet above the river, bighorn sheep, ancient petrogyphs, and so much more, this area has scenic beauty and pristine wilderness character to rival national parks in Utah, yet it remains unprotected and indeed threatened by industrial development.
The very canyon bottom you see in the photo above is the exact site of a proposed salt injection facility, along with an access road and two bridges spanning the river along the way. (Read more here and here). If this unthinkable sacrifice were to happen, Coloradans would lose a premier canyon wilderness for generations.
In February of 2021, The Colorado Wilderness Act was reintroduced to U.S. Congress and would finally protect the Dolores River Canyon as a designated wilderness area (along with a number of other critical areas needing protection). The act was passed through the House that same month, but has languished in the typical Senate gridlock since then. Will the Dolores Canyon get the protection it deserves and remain unspoiled? I, for one, sincerely hope so. Photo © copyright by Jack Brauer.
Dibond Mounted Matte Print (Ready to Hang)

The holy grail of ready-to-hang matte prints! This print paper has a subtle metallic base that gives the colors a vibrant glow, with a matte surface laminate that protects the print and completely eliminates any reflections or glare. This is an excellent choice for a room with bright windows, as the complete lack of reflections or glare allows you to see the entire image in all its glory. The print is mounted on a thin, lightweight, rigid dibond substrate and floats 3/4" off the wall, with a recessed wooden float frame and easy-to-hang wire hanger. (more info)

Bamboo Wood Mounted Matte Print (Ready to Hang)

This is my new favorite print style! A fine art paper print is mounted onto an eco-friendly bamboo wood backer. The print paper has a subtle metallic base that gives the colors a vibrant glow, and a protective matte surface laminate completely eliminates any reflections or glare. The 3/4" bamboo backer is hand-sanded and stained, with a beautiful multi-hued wood edge pattern which offers a modern but natural aesthetic that's a perfect match for a home with wood trim. A recessed wooden float frame with wire hanger makes it easy to hang. Available in sizes up to 30" x 40". (more info)

Glossy Metal Print (Ready to Hang)

Unlike all my other options which involve mounted paper prints, this attractive display option uses a dye sublimation technique to infuse the image into a thin, rigid ChromaLuxe aluminum panel with an ultra glossy finish. The result is a luscious display of vivid colors with excellent clarity, high contrast, and an extraordinary depth of imagery. The aluminum print has an extra 1/8" black dibond backer for added rigidity and durability, and is mounted on a 3/4" deep recessed float frame, so the print appears to float off the wall with no hanging system visible. Acrylic-Glass Mounted Lumachrome Print (Ready to Hang)

For art collectors who want the best of the best. It starts with the Lumachrome® fine art print with razor sharp details, a subtle metallic sheen, vibrant colors, and lifelike vividness. The print is face-mounted onto a special 1/8" museum-grade, UV protected, scratch-resistant Trulife® acrylic glass with significantly reduced reflectivity; and is backed by a 1/4" black substrate. A robust inset french-cleat hanging system is attached to the back, so that the print appears like a glass framed print is floating on the wall, but without the mat and frame. This is the option for those who desire the ultimate print display quality, period. (more info)

Fine Art Print (Loose Print for Framing)

This is the option if you want a fine art print to have matted and framed behind glass. These high quality giclee prints feature vivid, color-accurate ink pigments on heavyweight Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag fine art paper with a finely textured, satin semi-gloss surface. The prints have a white border around the image for easy matting and framing. With high archival ratings, these prints will last for many decades without fading.
The loose print is delivered without mounting or framing, so you'll need to handle it with care and take it to a local framer to have it matted and framed as you'd like. (more info)
Please allow 2-3 weeks for production and delivery.
